\"Recently, theremin has become an essential part of my concerts. As a singer - violinist, I was most inspired by the fact that it is incredibly similar to the human voice, but you can play it over a much wider range of sounds than a singer could ever achieve.<\/span><\/p>

Its construction is simple: it consists of two radio-frequency oscillators tuned to a frequency close to each other and an antenna. One oscillator is fixed at 170 kHz, the other, to which an antenna is connected, oscillates at a frequency between 168 and 170 kHz, which can be tuned by the antenna. The interference of the two signals, the floating of the audible sound in the frequency range, generates the electrical signal which is sent through an amplifier to the speakers, producing a musical sound. Another antenna, working on a similar principle, is used to control the volume.<\/p>

The teremini can be played by moving the musician's hands around the two antennas, using one to control the frequency (pitch) of the sound and the other to control the amplitude (volume).<\/p>

The teremin's sound, which incorporates portamento, glissando, tremolo and vibrato effects, is often described as unique, surreal and \"extraterrestrial\", especially since it was used to create the soundscapes of Who Are You, Doc, Spellbound, The Lost Weekend and The Day the Earth Stood Still.<\/p>

It was used in 20th century modern classical music, as well as in more popular genres such as pop and rock.<\/p>

Other instruments, such as the Ondes-Martenot, work on a similar principle, but you have to touch the keyboard of the instrument to produce the sound.<\/p>
